Jeremy E. Pelter is U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Administration, currently serving as Acting U.S. Secretary of Commerce since January 20, 2025.

Education

Pelter earned a B.A. in political science from Indiana University, and an M.S. in management from the University of Maryland University College.

Career

Before working at the Department of Commerce, he served as the U.S. Small Business Administration in several financial and operational roles. His first Senior Executive Service role as Chief Financial Officer and Director of Administration for the Economics and Statistics Administration.

Pelter served as a senior advisor to the Deputy Secretary of Commerce, then as Deputy Under Secretary for Industry and Security. He then became the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Administration.

Pelter was appointed the Acting U.S Secretary of Commerce by President Donald Trump on January 20, 2025.
