Sumit Purohit is an Indian filmmaker, writer, editor, and director, known for his work on the critically acclaimed Sony Liv series Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story. He has also contributed to several other notable projects, including Inside Edge, Bangistan, and the upcoming feature documentary Charlie Champion.
Career
Purohit began his career by writing the screenplay for the Children's Film Festival India-produced film Nandu ka Raja. His documentary I Woke Up One Morning & Found Myself Famous was widely showcased across the country.
He gained widespread recognition for his work as the lead writer and editor for Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020), which received critical and audience acclaim. The series was directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Applause Entertainment, based on the book by Sucheta Dalal and Debashis Basu.
Purohit also contributed as a co-writer for Bangistan (2015) and was a writer for Inside Edge (2017), Amazon Prime Video's first Indian original series. He was involved in writing both the first and second seasons of the show.
In 2021, he worked on the Netflix series Aranyak as an additional writer. Recently, he wrote for Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper (2024) and Srikanth (2024). His directorial works include the short film Vakeel Babu (2021) and the upcoming documentary Charlie Champion, currently in the final stages of production.
As an editor, Purohit has worked on notable projects like Scam 1992, Footfairy (2020), and Vakeel Babu (2021).
