West Cumbria MRWS Partnership is an advisory body set up to make recommendations to Allerdale Borough Council, Copeland Borough Council and Cumbria County Council on whether or not they should participate in the siting process for a nuclear waste disposal facility , "without commitment to eventually host a facility".

MRWS
Managing Radioactive Waste Safely (MRWS) is the name of the Government process looking for a way to manage the UK's higher activity radioactive waste. The Department Of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) discribe this as one which:
- ensures the long term protection of people and the environment
- does this in an open and transparent way
- is based on sound science
- uses public monies effectively
