Wessel Nijman (born 26 June 2000) is a Dutch professional darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He won his first ranking PDC title at Players Championship 24 in 2024.
In his youth career, Nijman won 12 titles on the PDC Development Tour and reached the semi-finals at the 2023 PDC World Youth Championship, making him one of the most successful players in the history of the PDC’s youth system.
Career
2018
In 2018 Nijman played in PDC Development Tour events, and won the second event, defeating Bradley Brooks 5–4 in the final.
2019
Nijman was able to qualify for the 2019 Czech Darts Open in Prague as an Associate Member qualifier, but was beaten 6–0 by Corey Cadby in the first round. He also qualified for the 2019 Gibraltar Darts Trophy, where he won 6–5 against Darren Webster before losing to Mensur Suljović.
2020
Nijman also won the fourth Development Tour event in 2020.
In 2020 Nijman was suspended for fixing a game against David Evans in the Modus A Night at the Darts event. Nijman admitted having taken payment to ensure he would lose the match 4–0. The Darts Regulation Authority banned Nijman for five years starting from 18 August 2020, with the latter two and a half years of that ban suspended.
2023
In 2023 Nijman came back to the international darts circuit and competed in the 2023 PDC Development Tour series, winning three titles. He qualified for the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship via his Development Tour ranking. His placing of third on the Order of Merit secured him a two-year Tour Card for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. In his first match at the Alexandra Palace, he played against darts veteran Steve Beaton, losing 3–1 in sets.
2024
In his debut year on the Pro Tour Nijman qualified for the 2024 Austrian Darts Open (European Tour 5), where he defeated Romeo Grbavac 6–5 before losing 6–3 to Danny Noppert in the second round. Nijman also qualified for the sixth European Tour event of the year, the 2024 Baltic Sea Darts Open, where he achieved a 6–3 victory over Luke Littler, before losing to Michael van Gerwen 6–2.
Nijman topped the 2024 PDC Development Tour series Order of Merit, which qualified him for the 2024 Grand Slam of Darts. He won seven titles at Development Tour 8 (DT8), DT13, DT16, DT17, DT19, DT21 and DT22.
On 1 October, Nijman won his first senior PDC title at Players Championship 24, defeating Stephen Bunting 8–5 in the final.
