  1. Ordeerligg (talk · contribs) and Bringterugapartetoilette (talk · contribs) should be added to the list as well, similar trolling of the HD over the last 36 hours. Heiro 23:31, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • The person behind this is not quite fluent in Afrikaans, however from the racist stuff they spewed on my talk page a few days ago he is clearly familiar with extreme right wing South African politics of 20 or so years ago. I doubt 4chan kiddies or similar would be able to manage such a level of sophisication, the only "false note" is the unidiomatic Afrikaans. I'm sure of Spekkomissie, 76.31.89.90, and Oordeerlig, but as far as I'm aware I've not interacted with any of the others. The admin User:Drmies would probably be able to shed some light on this as she helped me deal with the initial attacks against me. Thanks Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:41, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Listen000t-gam (talk · contribs) claims at their talk page "My real name is Edmund, I live in South Africa". Does Bringterugapartetoilette (talk · contribs) mean anything in Afrikaans? Because when I use Google Translate "Bring te rug aparte toilette" translates from Afrikaans to English as "Bring back separate toilets", Heiro 08:17, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed it is a reference to the racial segregation of Apartheid. Such comments are typical of Spekkomissie too, although milder than what he posted on my Talk page. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:34, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Heironymous, that translation coupled with some knowledge of SA history should tell you enough. I can't say from Bringterug's edits that they are Spek; Listen's reference to Koffiefontein is somewhat interesting; Spek shows an interest in places associated with the Boer history and their meaning, invented or not, in this racist resurgence movement. So CU has already been run on Ordeerligg and Listen? Drmies (talk) 13:46, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It does and I assumed as much, I just don't trust google translate 100%, it's bitten me a few times. I was hoping for confirmation from Dodger, who seems to speak Afrikaans. Heiro 17:54, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am indeed fluent in Afrikaans, any time you need a translation, you know where to find me. I have confirmed the translation of "Bring terug aparte toilette". Listen's reference to Koffiefontein is indeed "interesting". It's a sleepy little town that used to have a very rich diamond mine but downscaled operations quite drastically some years ago. I know this because my siblings all live quite close to it. BTW Low frequency radios are used for underground communication so a person trading in old mining equipment in Koffiefontein seems a plausible story. The middle-aged, blue-collar, white, male, demographic is associated quite strongly with white-supremacist "bring back apartheid" political views, as they were the biggest losers of privilege when apartheid ended. Quack, quack. Is there nothing we can do about this guy? — The Potato Hose 19:15, 7 June 2013 (UTC) — The Potato Hose 19:15, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New user shows up to Help Desk asking a question which shows a precocious knowledge of Wikipedia, that is the sort of question that shows knowledge of Wikipedia rules and procedures. Technoquat's prior socks first actions were to ask questions which showed a prior knowledge of paid editing issues, and immediately after being blocked as a sock puppet, this new account was created and started asking questions about WP:ENGVAR. Given the similarity in MOs, and the fact that Technoquat has been very active lately, I am requesting a checkuser to confirm this behavioral evidence, and to look for sleepers. • It's already autoblocked. By the time the 24 hours is up they will have moved on to any of the myriad dynamic IPs available to them (unfortunately). I'm wondering whether an edit filter could be cobbled together to help limit the disruption? --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 19:47, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't know much about the magic behind the edit filter, but my impression is that I'm not sure it could recognize this editing as different from genuine new users with a genuine question. The style of questioning and writing is something that it's easy for an experienced human being to be able to recognize fairly easily (that is, once you see the pattern, it is obvious) but which a language parser used by a program may not be able to flag. Is there a rangeblock possibility? Are there other good-faith editors using the same range as this person? --Jayron32 19:51, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • With regard to the edit filter, if someone with the technical ability wanted to email me I could provide some additional (not private, just BEANS-Y) info that may help. With regard to a range block, I see Technoquat in a number of large dynamic ranges, there may be too much collateral damage. DoRD has much more experience with working with range blocks than I do and may have some valuable input. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 20:04, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Can WMF's legal counsel not just contact this twit's ISP and have them yank their ability to access Wikipedia at all? — The Potato Hose 20:01, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Interesting question. I've never once heard of that happening, and there have been trolls MUCH more disruptive than this guy. The question more interesting than can? is would? Because the answer to have? is "not that I have ever seen." --Jayron32 20:13, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    • No it doesn't. I have asked WMF counsel about the possibility of WMF issuing some sort of cease and desist or court order or something to stop these serial idiots from taking up everyone's time. If there is a single ISP being used here, then that is a very easy thing to do. If, on the other hand, TQ is WP:BEANS to access Wiki, that will be harder. — The Potato Hose 19:35, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Potato, I'm guessing you aren't familiar with proxies or webhosts, but they hide the ISP if they are configured properly, so that isn't helpful. I'm not aware that the foundation ever really does that anyway. It is a nice theory, but it isn't done in practice. Page reclerked, please leave comments above. MuchoMejor Cafe's (MMC) editing is exclusively to Garvey-related pages. This "mother of three"'s first edit was to add a Wikitag and subsequently created her userpage. Similarly to this, Mondo's first edit was to AFD the article, in the same way Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kate Garvey (3rd nomination), Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kate Garvey (2nd nomination) and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kate Garvey were created, in those occasions, both nominators were blocked from editing. Mondo claims to be a sweet grandfather of three, but he behaves like a kid, and also Ann loves coffee (English for "Cafe"). Kate Garvey was full-protected for 12 hours, I asked the protecting admin to downgrade it, but he said he hasn't had experience with Techno, me neither, but it is clear these four accounts are related to the same person, they are new but know how Wikipedia works[6] and they just troll. Once the protection is lifted, I suggest semi-protection of the article. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 01:12, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Purely behavioural, but HS has done little but troll reference desks and notice boards, favourite Technoquat territory - see current thread on ANI Wikipedia:ANI#User:Horatio Snickers under the bridge. Note also an early post where HS announces that "I will require this information for my candidacy for the Wikimedia Foundation Board next year" - again typical Technoquat attention-seeking. [8]. There are other behavioural clues too, though it might be best not to be specific here - I'll e-mail them if required. AndyTheGrump (talk) 23:06, 7 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am not "Technoquat" nor any other user. I reject the argument that I have done "little but troll reference desks and notice boards". I don't see what's so "attention seeking" about wanting to stand for a position of responsibility on Wikipedia at some point in the future. This seems to be another step in some kind of deliberate attack on me by several users - having witnessed User:AndyTheGrump's vaguely threatening messages on my talk page and User:Medeis seeking any forum to mutter their grievances behind my back, I can't say I'm surprised that there is another spurious plot to remove me from this encylopedia.

I do not believe there are any grounds for this - if there are indeed "other behavioural clues", then present them now - at the moment, there appears to be a clear lack of evidence whatsoever. Horatio Snickers (talk) 16:52, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There's no conclusion to be drawn from Snicker's user contribution but that he is the sockpuppet of a blocked user or practised troll. One doesn't immediately start asking well-formatted and bizarre questions at the ref desk without prior practice:
The intentionally trolling questions, the interest in murder, and the insincere protestations of hurt feelings and only wanting to help strike me as characteristic of the user Kotjap who was banned a week or two before Snickers showed up. μηδείς (talk) 17:47, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As the author of the AN/I section I wrote it without suspicion that HS is any particular editor's sockpuppet. It seems to me, however, that his behavior is really quite odd for someone who is supposedly here because he wants to make good contributions toward the writing of an encyclopedia: a few (generally bad) edits to articles, a long interaction at the reference desk that provoked several people to complain on his talk page, and a flippant response in a VP discussion. These really do not incline me to think that he's someone who is interested in actually working on the project. I have no experience with Technoquat but HS's behavior is typical of someone who has been blocked and who comes back to try to annoy people. Mangoe (talk) 19:17, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Given the way this is going it's interesting to note the creation of a sophisticated new user User:Rjatodoum with a request at the Ref Desk that we comment on his dancing. μηδείς (talk) 19:40, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
